"Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire."-William B. Yeats
Notes from Mrs. Wallace
Well, we've started the year off with with a splash! Students
are learning procedure and routine and are diving head first into reading and math.
Did you know that there are three different ways to read a book?
There are! We can read the pictures, read the words, and retell the story. Along with learning varied ways to read a book, students are acquiring great reading skills in the areas of comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding their vocabulary.
Students are not just dipping their toes into the math pool. They are neck deep already as we explore money that jangles and dough that folds, tell time, and practicing our basic addition facts. Please, give your child opportunities at home to sort and count money,to tell time on an analog (nondigital clock), and to work on single digit addition facts until they know them as well as they know their own name.
